Brickwork & Repointing Leeds
Repointing, brick replacement and chimney repairs that match your home, not just patch it.

Mortar has a working life shorter than the brick it holds, and on a lot of Leeds' older housing stock — Victorian and Edwardian terraces especially — it's well past it. Crumbling or eroded pointing lets water into the wall, which causes damp, frost damage and eventually loose or spalling brick. CLM Projects repoints and repairs brickwork across Leeds, including chimney stacks, which take the worst weather on the house and are usually the first place mortar fails. With 20 years' experience we match mortar mix, colour and pointing style to your property's age rather than applying whatever's easiest — a hard modern cement mix on a soft old Leeds brick often causes more damage than the erosion it's meant to fix. Individual brick replacement, chimney repairs and full elevation repointing are all part of the job. Fully insured, Leeds-based, built on trust and built to last. FAQs
Brickwork & Repointing — Your Questions
How do I know if my house needs repointing?
Look for mortar that's crumbling, recessed more than a few millimetres, or missing in patches — you can usually pick at failing mortar with a fingernail. If water is getting into the wall you'll often see damp patches inside that seem to have no other cause.
Why does the mortar mix matter?
Older Leeds brick, especially pre-1920s, is softer than modern brick and was built with a lime mortar that lets moisture move through and evaporate. A hard modern cement mortar traps that moisture in the brick instead, which causes the brick itself to spall and fail — the repair ends up causing more damage than the problem it was meant to fix.
Can you match the existing mortar colour?
Yes, that's the point of doing it properly. We match sand colour, mortar mix and pointing style so the repointed section doesn't stand out against the original — a mismatched patch is usually more obvious than the erosion it replaced.
Is my chimney safe if the pointing has failed?
A chimney with badly failed pointing is worth having looked at — it takes the worst of the weather and problems there can let water into the roof space below. We'll assess it honestly and tell you if it's a repointing job or something more.
Do you replace individual bricks or just repoint?
Both, depending on what the wall needs. Spalled or cracked bricks get replaced individually rather than repointed around, because repointing a failing brick doesn't fix it.
